  • REVIEW – Sundance-High Plains RV Park & Cabins, Lamar Colorado. We spent a week here, so got the weekly rate ($148). This place is primarily an overnight stop along a pretty barren stretch of road. It has a motel, a cabin, one tent site, and 22 full hookup RV sites. No cable and no over the air TV. They have WIFI, but we didn’t use it. We had signals on both our AT&T and Verizon hot spots. Laundry and shower/restroom were there, but we didn’t use them. They have a small fenced dog park, which has AstroTurf instead of grass, so the dogs don’t get stickers in their feet. The arrangement of the sites is a little odd, as you can see from the map. But when speaking to the owner who had recently purchased the place and apparently they do plan to eventually redo the site arrangement to space people out more. They have a fairly attractive gathering spot at the center of the park, with picnic tables, a stage and a fire pit. The area for the RVs is basically just a gravel parking lot. The three sites along the back of the park (20, 22 and 24) look out onto a field of scrub brush, and have a little privacy. We were in 19 and didn’t even put out chairs because our “yard” was the road. The city of Lamar has quite a few restaurants. We weren’t impressed with the Thai place. There was a fairly good Mexican restaurant close to the park. There is also a Safeway and a Wal Mart in town. There is also a Ripley’s Believe it or not Petrified Wood house on the highway in town. I would recommend this place for a quick overnight or even a few days, but, a week in Lamar was way too long.
